What Is A Baby Nurse/ Infant Specialist?

A Baby Nurse is an experienced infant or newborn specialist who works in your home during the first weeks of your baby's life. They are experienced and knowledgeable about the care of infants and provide valuable education, support and guidance to parents for the first weeks of the baby's life.

A skilled Baby Nurse/Infant Specialist draws upon a variety of disciplines to prepare her for this job including newborn care, early childhood education, lactation education, nutrition, sleep habits, safety, parenting and bonding. The art of baby nursing can be dated back to very early times in history.

Dawn Fry, Infant Specialist

While interviewing with perspective families, for an infant specialist position, I am often asked what I like best about my work. In fact, there are two things I like best.

The first is somewhat obvious, I love being with and caring for newborns. Nothing compares to the wonderful magic like quality that they posses. It is so much fun to witness their personality’s blossom day by day. In addition to that there is the distinctive and pleasurable way they smell. It is difficult to describe exactly what they smell like but it is similar to a warm spring morning, fresh and so alive. Caring for newborn babies gives my life happiness and purpose.

The other wonderful part of being an infant specialist is my relationship with the families. It is a joy to share the love and excitement that new parents have for their babies, a kind of “baby bliss” experience. During my stay with a new family I am able to answer their questions, teach, advise and support them emotionally. Many families have told me how they count the days/hours/minutes until I return. When I do return they are so happy to see me. (You can’t beat that for job satisfaction!) They share stories of the day and ask questions about the needs of their babies. A special bond of trust and respect develops. Being an infant specialist is very rewarding because it gives back to me as much as I give to others.

My Newborn Care Philosophy;

There are different parenting styles and I believe every family has a right to choose a style that works best for them. It is important to me to support the choices families make so we can create harmony in the home. Happy parents raise happy children.

Newborn babies are very intelligent human beings. They make incredible efforts to communicate their needs to us. Newborns have taught me that they need to be held a lot during their first few months. I have also learned that babies are more relaxed when their life has flexible routines rather than strict schedules. Most importantly, by giving babies what they need, when they need it, they are more secure and happier.

Dawn Fry, A Multiples Infant Specialist

As a Multiples Infant Specialist I am experienced with caring for two or more babies at a time. My skills include helping and teaching parents how to negotiate the unique challenges of caring for more than one baby at a time. As a Multiples Infant Specialist I am also knowledgeable about the ongoing concerns and special needs of preemies.

I encourage families to ask questions no matter how “silly” they may seem to them. For example; A Dad, with twin girls,  asked me if he could kiss his babies too much. My reply; Can you pet a puppy too much? I let him know that he has nothing to worry about, the girls love it!

Taking Care of Business

Day Help or Night Help?
It isn’t always easy for new or expecting parents to anticipate the kind of newborn help they need, days, nights or both. Some families prefer I be with them during the first few days they bring the babies home. Once they are somewhat adjusted to the daily care of their newborns they have me move to night care so they can get more sleep. For these reason I make myself available for all of the options.

How Many Days/Weeks/Months?
Most families have a general idea of how long they will need newborn help and reserve that amount of time with me. I don’t book with another family until it is clear that my current family is ready to move forward on their own.

Contracts?
It has been my experience that contracts are not needed, unless the family requests one.

Documents, Certifications and Printouts?
During an interview I present copies of my Trustline Report, CPR certificate, TB test results, DMV printout, copy of my driver’s license, and course certificates.

Rates?

  • While caring for one baby my fee is $30.00 an hour
  • Caring for two babies my fee is $35.00 an hour.
  • Caring for three babies my fee is $45.00 an hour.
  • I have a minimum of 25 hours a week.
  • Families who book me for 40 hours or more receive my Self-Soothing Sleep Formula free, a $500.00 value.

Hello,

We couldn’t have done it without Dawn Fry! She was amazing when our twin boys were born. I always had a good night sleep knowing they were going to be in great care throughout the night. THANKS DAWN…..  The  J. Family

To All Who May Need The Services of Dawn Fry:

Dawn Fry rescued our family, just 8 days after our son was born.

When we arrived home, with our new 8 pound 8 ounce bundle, we were overwhelmed by the little knowledge we had to care for him.

I began to search for a night nanny and was given Dawn’s number, and when we called, I immediately was put at ease by Dawn’s friendly manner.  I was lucky because she was available to help the following day.

She arrived with references and a trust line report, which was great, but one look at her and I knew we had found the right person to help not only our son, but
us as well. She was caring, engaging, confident, listened to our concerns and went into action, right away.

Dawn would arrive at 8 pm and stay through the night until 6 am.  We would be able to have a complete night of sleep while Dawn held down the fort. Never, did we even hear our son cry. In the morning, our little guy was bright eyed, happy and ready to start the day.

In addition, Dawn taught us how to bath him, use the car seat correctly, how to avoid diaper rash, how to transfer him from the bassinet to the crib without any stress and more.

We are confident parents, because of Dawn.

We continue our relationship with Dawn, babysitting weekly or biweekly, while we can totally relaxed, trusting that our son is with Dawn. It is such a benefit knowing that he is safe, loved and with a person who has known him since birth.

In addition, Dawn continues to improve our knowledge. Each time she comes over to care for our son, she will bring us a new interesting tools for parenting, a cool toy for our son, an article to read and the most pleasant personality…. you almost want to just stay home, and talk with Dawn.

Good Luck and Happy Parenting.

To Whom It May Concern,

Dawn Fry was a Nanny for our daughter starting when she was three months old. We had the ideal situation because she also cared for our neighbor’s daughter, the same age.

Overall, Dawn has a lot of experience with children and understands how to help them develop emotionally and socially. Our daughter adores Dawn which is another testament to Dawn’s abilities. Dawn did all kinds of activities with the children to help them build up their confidence. She took them for walks in the rain (with rain coat and boots of course), to the park, and to the library via the bus to check out books and stay for story time.

We would highly recommend Dawn for any position the entails taking care of children. She has had a tremendously positive impact on our daughter’s life and ours as well.

Best Wishes,
C. B. & D.C.

To Future Dawn Fry Families,

I am writing to recommend Dawn.  She has been caring for our 2 girls since our older one was only 3 months old.  She is incredibly reliable in her job and is very talented with children.

My husband and I have learned a lot from her—she is much more than a baby-sitter, she teaches both the children and the parents.  As first time parents, she gave us invaluable advice and taught us much about healthy ways to communicate with our children.

We give her a lot of credit for our daughters’ verbal abilities, social skills and physical abilities.  Overall, she made the early years of our girl’s lives easier and more enriched.  We miss her.  K. H.
